Organizers of the Montreal Canada Day Parade, led by Nicholas Cowen, have announced the official cancellation of the 2022 edition of the annual event, which was initially scheduled to hold on the streets of Montreal on July 1st, 2022. The move has become necessary due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the need for interested participants to be safe during and after the event.
“Currently, Montreal and the rest of Canada is attempting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Events are beginning to take shape in Montreal, however, it is in a much different form since not all governments were prepared for a sudden opening. The Montreal Canada Day Parade does not have any restrictions put on by any level of government,” said Nicholas Cowen, main organizer of the Montreal Canada Day Parade. “At this point in time, there is insufficient data to put on this event safely. I do not plan to change it from the current form. I do not believe that one should be restricted or left out, unless directly opposed to the guidelines set forth by the parade committee, from celebrating Canada. Therefore, due to safety reasons, the Montreal Canada Day Parade will not be on the streets of Montreal on July 1st, 2022.”
The Montreal Canada Day Parade has become increasingly popular over the years, becoming one of the most anticipated events of the year, with roughly 170,000 viewers and about 8000 to 9000 participants. It serves as a platform for people from different ethnic backgrounds to showcase their culture, heritage and roots while learning from others, with lots of traditional and vibrant performances, such as customary folk songs and dances, colorful costumes and a host of others. However, the frills and thrills of the event will not be available for 2022 due to circumstances beyond the control of the organizers, including hike in prices.
In addition to the Covid-19 issues surrounding the organization of the event, the lack of adequate sponsorship has also affected the 2022 Montreal Canada Day Parade. Consequently, Nicholas and his team have announced the cancellation of this year’s event while putting necessary plans in place to make the 2023 edition super exciting for all.
