Quat? What? Wipe? – Earth to Body

wipe

A facial wipe is a quat.  A.k.a.  QAC (quarernary ammonium compound)

Most of us have used wipes at one time or another. On our hands, removing eye makeup, cleaning, dusting, shining, disinfecting, freshening, removing grease, soothing babies. Trade names may pop to mind:  Sani- Wipes, Germs Be Gone, Oxivir TB, Ki-ose disinfectants, Clorox Disinfecting Wipes…and more.

Covid expanded the wipe market. Like the masks, wipes were also deemed necessities. Clorox responded to the demand by increasing production of wipes to over 1.5 million packs a day.  That’s a lot of quat.

Wipes, quats or QAC’s are a broad class of several 100 chemicals very common in the USA and Canada.  Interestingly, quats are highly regulated in the European Union.  Meaning, they are questionable as to their safety?   Why do we not question quats here?

Unless you have never tried a commercial mouthwash, shampoo, detergent, eye drops, or you reside in a bubble, you have encountered a quat.

The past 3 years we have had a wipe down like never before. When zoom did not cut it and one was required to personally meet in person, wipes surfaced. Visit a doctor or dentist office, you witness the wipe down. The smell alone is indicative.

Meet the quats

Quats can cause allergies, skin, eye and lung irritations.  Some packages of antibacterial wipes actually recommend that you wash your hands after using.  It would be comical, if not so serious.

True, quats or wipes do kill bacteria.  But the good old REAL soap and water do a safe job. Agreed, quats are easier.

We do make real soaps. We also make a sanitizer WITHOUT THE ALCOHOL for the sensitive and the wary.  The ingredients are also known to kill bacteria, but the pure EO’s would be too costly to be commonly found in the commercial setting

When the quats can be avoided, do so. Check out our pure soaps and All Purpose alcohol, quat free Sanitizer.  Quit the quats.
