The Growth of Male Rhinoplasty in Canada: Insights from Montreal-based Surgeon Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra

Male rhinoplasty is becoming a growing trend in cosmetic surgery in Canada. Men who were once hesitant to pursue aesthetic changes are now showing interest in procedures that promise subtle refinements and practical health benefits. The motivations are often related to appearance and function, with many wanting to fix long-term breathing issues and improve facial harmony.

Statistics reflect the strength of this trend. More than 1.1 million rhinoplasty procedures were performed nationwide in 2023, marking a 21.6% increase compared to earlier years. Rhinoplasty is now the most common cosmetic surgery for men, with 60,000+ male patients getting the procedure in 2020. That number represented nearly one quarter of all rhinoplasty cases in the country. Clinics in Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec are increasingly tailoring their services to male patients. A review of Canadian clinic websites found that nearly a quarter of practices in Quebec now feature male-focused pages, suggesting that demand is growing and being recognized within the industry.

In Montreal, Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra, head surgeon at Clinique 7, has seen these changes happen directly. His practice reflects the broader national vision, with a steady rise in men wanting consultations for cosmetic and functional reasons. “Cosmetic surgery for men carried a stigma for years, with society often discouraging men from changing their physical appearances,” says Dr. Chacra. “However, today’s men feel more empowered to pursue aesthetic goals.” That cultural shift has opened opportunities for men who might once have kept their concerns to themselves.

New technology has also made rhinoplasty more approachable. High-resolution 3D imaging and computer simulations give patients a clearer idea of potential results. Non-surgical rhinoplasty has also become popular. Temporary dermal filler treatments can smooth out bumps or change the shape of the nose without surgery. Dr. Chacra notes, “Non-surgical rhinoplasty has helped increase the popularity of this procedure for men. Injectable fillers offer temporary changes, providing a preview of surgical results.” For some, this becomes a step toward a more permanent surgical procedure.

Functionality is another important motivator. Old sports injuries or structural issues like a deviated septum can create chronic breathing problems, which surgery can often fix. “Many men pursue rhinoplasty to address functional issues, such as breathing difficulties,” explains Dr. Chacra. “In Canada, where an active lifestyle is common, improving nasal function is a significant motivating factor.” For many patients, the opportunity to improve both appearance and comfort makes the procedure especially appealing.

The increase in male rhinoplasty has prompted clinics to adjust. Virtual consultations now enable men to address issues discreetly prior to visiting a clinic, and expanded financing options have increased access to procedures. Expenses typically range from $6,000 to $15,000, depending on the province and the complexity of the procedure, with Montreal often being more affordable than major cities such as Toronto and Vancouver.

Patients are arriving at rhinoplasty with more defined expectations. Some seek only slight adjustments, whereas others prioritize enhancing functionality above all else. Dr. Chacra has observed that recognizing these priorities and customizing treatment plans accordingly boosts men’s confidence in the process. Focusing on natural outcomes has reduced the intimidation associated with surgery, harmonizing results so enhancements appear balanced rather than conspicuous.

Rhinoplasty is no longer seen as exclusive to women or famous people. Individuals from diverse backgrounds view the process as a means to enhance their quality of life and self-esteem. The consistent increase in demand indicates broader societal changes: the reduction of stigma associated with cosmetic procedures, the acceptance of men seeking personal aspirations in health and appearance, and the accessibility of methods that combine subtlety with effectiveness.

Within this larger movement, surgeons such as Dr. Chacra are assisting men in making choices that previously seemed unattainable. Combining medical innovation with an emphasis on each patient’s unique objectives, he embodies a new era of male rhinoplasty in Canada, characterized by transparency, practicality, and outcomes that resonate with personal identity.
