Seven things you can do in Montreal in one day

ultimate Montreal guide

So you’re in Montreal. Perhaps you’re just passing through or, for some reason, you’ve had to cut your trip short. You’ve got a day to enjoy the city and take in as much as you can. Well, that’s pretty much impossible, right?

Wrong.

In any city, you can pack in a number of things into a single day, so long as you know what they are and how you can organise your trip to fit them all in.

And that’s what we’re here for!

Below, you’ll find seven things you can do in Montreal and how you can do them all in one day. So get a Montreal coffee in you – you’re gonna need it – get your head into gear, and get reading:

Have A Gaming Night

Okay, we’re going to start this list by cheating. But hey, hear us out! If you’re looking to pack everything in Montreal into one day, it’s likely that you’re arriving the night before that day. If this is the case, then you’ll want to get started as soon as possible. There are a number of Casinos in Montreal that offer a wide range of games and jackpots. Many of them are online, so you don’t even have to step out of the hotel room or miss out on a good night’s sleep – yet another thing you’re going to need for the day ahead!

Start The Day With Poutine

So, you’re up and ready – what’s the first thing you need to do? Well, breakfast, of course! But this isn’t going to be any old breakfast. You need something hearty and fulfilling to keep you going until around 2 to 3 o’clock. For this reason, you should tuck into one of the most popular Canadian delicacies, poutine, at one of the many cafes in the city. This will get your day off to the perfect start.

Take A Walk To Notre Dame Basilica

Next, take a walk to Notre Dame Basilica. One of the best things about Montreal is the local architecture, all of which has a wealth of history and stories embedded in the walls. The most impressive is Notre Dame Basilica, which is known for its Gothic revival architecture and awe-inspiring scale.

Visit The Space For Life Museum

Next, take a quick cab ride to the Space For Life museum. This is the most popular museum complex in Montreal, complete with a planetarium, insectarium and an entire botanical garden. You can spend around three to four hours here before you head off to your next destination.

Explore Old Montreal

Once this is done, take another cab ride to Old Montreal. This is an incredible, preserved district that goes back several hundred years to 1642. It is one of the most thrilling and beautiful parts in all of Canada, let alone Montreal, so it is well worth a visit just to stroll around the place and take in the atmosphere.

Pop Into Jacopo For Lunch

While you’re strolling, make sure you pop into one of the local cafes or restaurants for lunch. We recommend Jacopo, a gorgeous Italian restaurant that has a particularly naughty menu full of sweet and salty dishes!

Watch The Sunset From St. Joseph’s Oratory

When the night starts to draw in, make sure you’re in the perfect place to watch the sunset. In Montreal, one of the most popular sunset-viewing spots is Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal. If you’re travelling with a partner, this is one of the most romantic spots to see out the day, sitting on a mound on the Royal Mountain, marvelling at the city. Of course, if you’re not too tired, you don’t have to see out the day here. There are plenty of nightlife activities in Montreal to be getting on with. As we mentioned before, you better be stocked up on those coffees!
