The Table de Quartier Sud de l’Ouest-de-l’Île (TQSOI) will be hosting an Earth Day Celebration on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at the Westside Gathering Church (820 Tecumseh Ave, Pointe-Claire). The theme for this year’s event is The Butterfly Effect – our small actions can have a big impact when everyone participates. Last year, the 5 à 7 style networking event was a great success, attracting about 65 people, including community organizations, elected officials and guest of honour Mr. Tom Mulcair. The TQSOI is expecting to draw the same amount of people this year. The event will attract both those who are dedicated to sustainable living and those who want to know more about the topic and be inspired.
The event will raise the idea of working collectively towards a more sustainable community. The TQSOI’s Planning Committee said of the event ‘’We want to inspire attendees to adopt more sustainable practices as individuals and within their group or organization. Climate change affects vulnerable residents disproportionately, and so we need to think about how we can mitigate its impacts and reduce our environmental footprint collectively.’’
The evening will bring together individuals from the fields of social, environmental and economic development to emphasize the TQSOI’s holistic approach to community organizing. The evening’s guest speakers will present innovative practices for creating sustainable communities at the grassroots and municipal levels. The organization hopes the
zero-waste event will serve as a positive example for other community-based organizations by inspiring them to reduce environmental impact of their events.
The Table de Quartier Sud de l’Ouest-de-l’Île (TQSOI) is a non-profit organization that unites all citizens and individuals as well as local community organizations, institutions, businesses and political life, with the aim to improve the quality of life and to favor social development in the south of the West Island.
