Orthopaedic is a mattress that has an orthopaedic effect, i.e. the ability to support the spine so that it can relax. Any mattress serves to rest better the back, muscles, joints. According to thesleepshopinc.com experts, better the mattress, the better it relieves stress and fatigue, relieves the spine. For complete relaxation, the spinal column must be in its natural position, and this is possible when it does not experience any additional stress. If the mattress is too soft, the spine will sag, and if it is too hard, it will press on the spine. The more closely the mattress follows the contours of the body, the higher the orthopaedic effect.
If a person does not sleep on an orthopaedic mattress and his spine flexes, then the vertebrae are displaced, the nerve roots are pinched. The impulse going from the spinal cord to various organs and muscles is disrupted. Consequently, blood circulation and lymph drainage are impaired. This leads to chronic pain, diseases of various organs, and worsens the quality of sleep. It turns out that by buying an orthopaedic mattress, you protect yourself from many diseases. Incorrect position of the spine during sleep contributes to the development of hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, muscle pain, stomach ulcers, scoliosis, sciatica, neuralgia, and insomnia.
How can you achieve this even distribution? After all, different parts of a person’s body weigh in different ways. The ideal problem of uniformity can be solved by water and air mattresses. They were the first orthopaedic mattresses. They were developed, at one time, for hospitals and medical institutions. But technical difficulties did not allow them to become popular. Very loud compressor noise in the air mattress interferes with sleep. And the weight of a water mattress reaches a ton, and this water must be changed every three years. This does not allow them to be used at home, and they are rarely used.
Today there are several types of mattresses: latex; spring; foam rubber; wadded; others. But their application is far from the possibilities of water and water. Elastic mattresses cannot evenly distribute the load, therefore, the mattress must have different hardness zones. Scientists have solved this problem and developed mattresses with different areas of firmness. Spring and latex mattresses “work” according to this principle. They have seven different zones of stiffness, each of which corresponds to a different weight in the human body.
Latex mattresses
Latex mattresses are filled with latex – a natural material. It is a foamed rubber tree sap extract. The main source of natural rubber – Brazilian Hevea – grows in tropical countries (Brazil, Malaysia, New Guinea). Hevea juice is processed and acquires a specific microporous structure, similar to the structure of a honeycomb with air cells. Latex is resistant to environmental influences, it is durable, mobile, elastic, thanks to the content of natural rubber, and environmentally friendly. It is distinguished by the absence of noise during operation. Doctors consider it an ideal filler for mattresses, noting characteristics such as self-ventilation, hypoallergenicity and hygiene.
Air circulates freely in the latex air channels. Its structure and durable resilience are superior to foam and spring fillers. The change in hardness in such mattresses is achieved by changing the diameter of the holes in each zone. If the mattress has a uniform perforation, then its orthopedic effect is lower. Science went further, and a composition of artificial latex (foam rubber) was developed. Its production is similar to the production of foam rubber, but the properties of this material are much higher. The rigidity and elasticity of such a mattress depends on the density of the foam rubber, the number of holes and their diameter. Artificial latex has good regenerative properties and is more durable than other types of polyurethane foams. The only advantage of artificial latex over natural latex is the lower price.
Spring mattresses
Spring mattresses. This is a more purchased type of mattress, as it is much cheaper than latex mattresses. At the heart of these mattresses are springs that are either interconnected or not. This is easy to check by pressing one spring – all the others will sell too. Independent springs are inserted into special pockets that are sewn together. The more springs, the better the mattress. If you press one of the springs in this mattress, it will not affect the other springs in any way, which means that such a mattress will follow the contours of the human body, providing him with a healthy sleep. Scientists have come up with the idea of using springs of different diameters in order to increase the property of the mattress to adhere to the body. Today, in spring mattresses there are up to 1200 springs of various stiffness per square meter, which improves the point elasticity – one of the main characteristics of the mattress.
Spring block “Bonnel”
As we have already said, the basis of a spring mattress is springs. They are not visible, because they are inside the mattress. And you will not immediately notice the difference between the two different types of mattresses. But you should know that the orthopaedic properties of any mattress depend on the elasticity and resilience of the spring block. The most common is the “bonnel” block. This is a block consisting of five-coil springs interconnected. All springs are of bicone design. Their radius first decreases and then gradually increases. The wire diameter of the springs is 2.2 mm, and the diameter of the steel spiral is 1.4 mm. The coils do not touch each other, so there is no friction or noise. The unusual shape of the springs ensures an even distribution of the human body weight over the mattress area.
In our store you will find a large selection of spring mattresses, latex mattresses and mixed mattresses. Remember that mattress service life is 8-12 years. Enjoy your shopping! Don’t forget that buying a good mattress affects your overall quality of life!
