It isn’t much of a surprise as the rumours of former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre has thrown his hat in the ring for top spot in this coming falls Montreal election for mayor. We have a race now, Denis Coderre running for Montreal mayor in 2021 election.
Denis Coderre officially made his announcement last night Sunday March 28, 2021 on Radio-Canada’s Tout le monde en parle. Coderre said in the interview, “I’m not running against Valérie Plante, I’m running for Montreal.” Coderre also added, “Montreal has lately lost its lustre. We don’t get the feeling that this is a metropolis.”
The present Montreal mayor Valérie Plante defeated Coderre in the Montreal 2017 election becoming the first woman mayor.
Coderre said, “I know I had a very bad final year as Montreal Mayor, but with my team we’re in the position to give this city a renaissance.” Coderre also added, “What is most important is that this isn’t the story of one man. We will do this as a team.”
Montreal mayor Valérie Plante called the build up to Denis Coderre’s announcemnet a “Striptease”. ” You can’t say we didn’t expect it.”
Montreal mayor Plante posted on social media that she welcomed Denis Coderre to the race.
