Lakeshore hospital trying to contain covid-19 outbreak

Lakeshore General Hospital Emergency at full capacity

Lakeshore hospital trying to contain covid-19 – According to the the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’ÃŽle-de-Montreal, health officials are trying to contain a new outbreak of Covid-19 at the Lakeshore Hospital after fifteen patients contracted the virus. The patients who have been infected, were located on the 4th floor of the hospital in an area that is considered a ‘Cold Zone’. They were there for other health problems and apparently isolated from the rest of the hospital. The patients who had already contracted the disease were located in the hospital’s ‘Hot Zone’ on another floor. The union representing nurses at the Lakeshore General Hospital said it was probably spread by hospital staff who have been moving between the two zones.

In a statement, the CIUSSS health agency said there are now a total of 79 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the hospital. “Preventive measures recommended by the Quebec health ministry are being applied to ensure the health and safety of both patients and staff. For hospitalized patients who test positive for COVID, they are transferred to a containment zone adapted for this purpose, with all the required protective measures. Following a new outbreak at the hospital, we have a team on site that is currently reorganizing the containment areas.” The mobile medical facility set up by the Red Cross in a LaSalle arena is expected to help relieve the pressure on the hospital.
