Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died peacefully at Balmoral, Scotland this afternoon. At the age of 96 HM, Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning monarch in British history.
The official announcement made by the Royal Family reads, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
HM Queen Elizabeth has reigned over the British monarchy since the age of 25 following the reign of King George the VI.
Thousands have gathered in front of Buckingham Palace in London to pay their respects.
