Registration is now open for the Cummings Centre’s first ever bilingual national conference on Aging Well: Adapting to the New Reality, being held online from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm on Thursday January 21, 2021. The aim of the conference is to identify opportunities and generate concrete plans to address the many challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented to seniors across both ends of the continuum, from the well to the frail elderly.
The one-day program will begin with inspirational presentations on Looking Forward: Adapting to the New Reality by Stuart Himmelfarb, MA, MBA, CEO of B3, The Jewish Boomer Platform and Senior Fellow, NYU Wagner; David Elcott, PhD, Co-founder and Principal Partner, B3, The Jewish Boomer Platform and Taub Professor, NYU Wagner; andRabbi Laura Geller, Rabbi Emerita of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, California, named one of Newsweek’s Most Influential Rabbis.
“The essence of this national conference reinforces the Cummings commitment to empower and enhance the quality of life of adults age 50 and over,” says Annette Oliel, President of the Cummings Centre. “This conference is a rare opportunity to provide participants with access toleaders in the field of well-aging.”
What topics will be covered?
Workshop presentations will be followed by facilitated round table discussions on matters of mutual concern. Four distinct areas will be explored:
· Recognizing and Counteracting the Effects of Isolation and Loneliness: Practical Optimism with Sue Varma, MD, DFAPA, Professor of Psychiatry at NYU Langone Health and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association
· Technology for Staying @ Home – The Digital Future with Marc Chriqui, CEO Delevante Technologies, Anna D’Ambra, RN, BScN, MScN, ENC(c), LHBB (C),Telehealth Clinical Lead and Elliott Silverman, Director Logistics, JGH-CIUSSS Centre Ouest
· Music and the Arts – Enhancing our Well-Being with Daniel Levitin, PhD, FRSC, author and James McGill Professor Emeritus
· Building Intergenerational Bridges with Sharon Mackenzie, M.Ed, Executive Director of i2i, Intergenerational Society of Canada
Who should attend?
The conference is open to individuals age 50+, organizations and professionals engaging with seniors. “Together with its existing partnerships as well as newly formed ones, the Centre will work towards common goals and will begin to develop a roadmap that will ultimately improve the quality of life of all seniors,” says Laya Feldman, Chairperson of the Conference.

A time-limited early bird registration fee of $18 is being offered until Monday, November 30, 2020 after which it will increase to $25.
