The Îl-aux-Tourtes bridge is going to open Monday starting with one lane each way. They also say it will be running at full capacity by June 21, 2021.
The sudden closure of the Îl-aux-Tourtes bridge was caused by human error. Workers were doing maintenance on the bridge and severed several rods which made the bridge unsafe for use.

Almost 90,000 cars use the bridge everyday. Traffic was diverted to highways 20 and 30. Tolls were cancelled on highway 30 due to the inconvenience and EXO commuter train is offering its services for free.
When is Îl-aux-Tourtes bridge reopening?
- May 31, 2021 – One lane per direction
- June 7, 2021 – Two lanes in the peak direction and one lane in the off-peak direction
- June 14, 2021 – Two lanes per direction
- June 21, 2021 Three lanes per direction – fully open.
Transport Minister said over 100 people have been working around the clock over the long weekend to reopen the bridge. The damage rods will be replaced and additional reinforcement will be added for more safety. Workers are continuing to reinforce support beams with a carbon-fibre polymer.
