Quebec now holds the record of Omicron variant cases across Canada reaching a staggering 5,043 Omicron cases. Montreal accounts for 1,656 of them.

Montreal called a state of Emergency last year during the second and third wave.

Mayor Plante said, “The state of emergency will allow the city to react quickly to a changing situation. We will be able now, to be proactive. We are more in charge, if i can say, in some decisions.”

“With the numbers of Omicron cases rising we want to be ready! If there is an outbreak in a shelter and the need to isolate them, we will need more beds and more sites,” added Mayor Plante.

Montreal Mayor Varlerie Plante was asked about the possibility that Quebec could reinstate a curfew, Plante said, she had not spoken to her provincial counterpart. “If the Quebec government does enforce a curfew we must think about the most vulnerable, the homeless.”

More to come.
