The high salaries paid by MLS teams are well known. The essential soccer league in the United States is one of the leagues that pay the highest salaries to its stars. Players with big names in Europe, such as Insigne, are currently playing in the American league.

The MLS Players’ Association has published the players’ salaries in the championship. The list has been updated and it is full of names who have played for big European clubs and who play their soccer in MLS. The list with the best-paid players, and their corresponding salaries, is as follows (from lowest to highest):

Lucas Zelarayan (Columbus Crew) $3,700,000.00

Zelarayan, 29, joined the Crew before the start of the 2020 season from Liga MX side Tigres UANL as the most expensive signing in the club’s history and his performance has exceeded expectations. The midfielder led the club to the MLS Cup in his debut season, scoring two goals and registering five assists in Playoff matches.

Jozy Altidore (New England Revolution) $4,264,963.00

The attacker joins the Massachusetts club to compete in MLS Cup 2022 and the CONCACAF Champions League. His contract runs through 2024 and Toronto FC will continue to pay his salary through 2023.

Douglas Costa (LA Galaxy) $4,508,333.00

The 31-year-old Brazil international is on loan from Gremio for the first six months with the Galaxy. At the end of the loan, Costa will sign for another year and a half with the Galaxy through the end of the 2023 campaign. Lorenzo Insigne (Toronto FC) $14,000,000.00
