How Safe Is Coolsculpting?

How Safe Is Coolsculpting

Coolsculpting, cold sculpting, or cryolipolysis, is now a very popular method for removing excess body fat. It is a non-surgical medical process where a plastic surgeon will freeze the subcutaneous fat in your body or the fat that is below the skin. Gradually, your fat cells are going to be broken down and removed through the liver. As a result, you will not only lose those excess pounds, you will also look trimmer and much fitter.

It is a completely safe process without surgery. It has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010. Since coolsculpting received FDA approval in 2010, there has been an 823 percent increase in the popularity of this treatment.

Apart from being non-surgical, coolsculpting is also a treatment where no anesthesia, needles, or incisions will be required. You can get back to work on the same day after the treatment. Many believe cold body sculpting is one of the most effective ways of removing stubborn body fat. This cosmetic treatment for removing fat is now a top choice in the US, Canada, and many other parts of the world.

How does coolsculpting work?

There is an interesting story behind the discovery of the process. Researchers were trying to see how fat responded to frostbite. They noticed that fat tends to freeze when the temperature is high enough.

Eventually, this lead to the formation of the cryolipolysis, which “involves controlled application of cooling within the temperature range of −11 to +5 °C (+12.2 to +41 °F) for the localized reduction of fat deposits, intended to reshape the contours of the body”. The technology uses freezing, which is why it is also called “freeze sculpting”. Cool body sculpting can reduce fat by as much as 25 percent, which is quite remarkable.

A plastic surgeon or dermatologist will use a device with two paddles to hold the targeted body part. The paddles will stay for half an hour to an hour. After turning on, the device will function as a suction cup on your skin. It will start freezing your fatty cells. As the cells freeze, they will start the apoptosis process, which means, the cells are going to die. Your body will then eliminate them naturally in a few days. It works in the same way any dead cell is removed from the body.

The temperature required for freezing fat is always higher than the water freezing temperature. It is only a small difference of 7 degrees F. Fat will freeze at 39, while water will do so at 32 F. This small change makes all the difference.

Our fat cells get larger when we gain weight. They shrink when we lose weight. Cool body sculpting will not shrink your cells. They will be killed and removed from your body.

The fat can be removed from many areas of the body, like your thighs, abdomen, upper arm, back, sides, below the butt, below your chin, and along your bra line. It works effectively everywhere.

My cells will die – Should I worry?

There is nothing to worry about. Cells in the human body die all the time. the dead cells are replaced by new and healthier ones. The skin and other body tissues remain unharmed.

However, the result is not going to be immediate. It is likely that you will see the result after quite a few weeks. Give your body the time to eliminate the dead fatty cells through your liver.

How safe is Coolsculpting?

This is a completely safe process and has also been approved by the FDA. In fact, coolsculpting is safer compared to liposuction and other traditional fat removal methods through surgery.

How Safe Is Coolsculpting

Most people won’t even feel anything. There is no pain or discomfort. There can be a slight tugging sensation when the device and its panels are freezing your fatty cells. But do make sure that you get it done by a trained and certified professional in a coolsculpting clinic. A trained professional will also give “your body the contour you’ve been working to get without invasive surgery or downtime”.

The process is also very quick. It can be done in an hour maximum. No anesthesia, surgery, or tissue manipulation is required. However, some people have reported a little numbness in the treatment area. Don’t worry because this sensation goes away in a few days. In extremely rare cases, the numbness can last for a month.

There are only minor side effects of coolsculpting like a small swelling at the treatment place, a pinching sensation, redness, tingling or stinging. Muscle cramping is quite rare. Most side effects will go away in a few days.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, about 1 percent of those who have done this body sculpting report a side effect like paradoxical fat hyperplasia, where the fat cells in the body go up unexpectedly. This condition is usually seen in men but is rare in women. Paradoxical fat hyperplasia is also more common in Latinos and Hispanics. We don’t know for sure why this is happening.

Does freeze sculpting hurt?

This is a painless process for most people. But experiences do differ as we all have different abilities to tolerate pain. Some people experience minor discomfort during the treatment.

Do keep in mind that there can be some swelling, soreness, redness, bruising sensation, or numbness for a few days after the treatment. They will usually go away in a few days.

Who Is a Good Candidate for This Treatment Plan?

Cold sculpting is recommended for those who are close to their ideal body weight. In other words, you can get it done if you are within 10 pounds of your target weight. It will be a good choice if you are generally healthy and if you are looking for a way to remove stubborn fat without surgery. It will help you lose up to 25 percent of your unwanted stubborn fat.

Avoid the treatment if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Call up 647-696-5533 to find whether you are a good candidate for this treatment.
