St. Patrick’s Day Parade cancelled again

2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Executive Committee of the United Irish Societies (UIS) of Montreal has just announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade cancelled, which was scheduled for March 14, 2021.

The parade has been a St. Patrick’s Day tradition in Montreal since 1824, and is the longest-running parade in North America to celebrate this annual holiday. The United Irish Societies has been organizing and hosting the parade since 1929.

For the second year in a row the St. Patrick’s Day Parade cancelled due to COVID-19.

“At this time, the health and safety of the Montreal community is our greatest priority. We must act in the best interest and well-being of all organizers, volunteers, participants, and spectators,” said Kevin Tracey, VP of Advertising and Public Relations of the UIS. “Though we are disappointed to announce the cancellation, we will monitor the situation. If public safety rules allow large gatherings at any point in 2021, we reserve the right to hold the parade on an alternate date.”

“There is a responsibility to our members, community, history and ensure the continuity of this event and we take this responsibility very seriously,” he added.
