Montreal Canadiens win the NHL draft Lottery – Top pick since 1980

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens win the NHL draft which will be held in their own home.

The Montreal Canadiens had the best odds to win the lottery with an 18.5 per cent after posting the worst NHL season with a record of 22-49-11. Well, now they will be the first team to make their choice on July 7th, 2022 at the Bell centre in Montreal.

New Jersey Devils grabbed the second pick and the Arizona Coyotes hold the third choice.

The Montreal Canadiens have not had a first draft pick since 1980 and they drafted Doug Wickenheiser. Funny enough the draft was also held in Montreal at the Montreal Forum.

Montreal has had the first overall pick 6 times including the NHL Draft 2022. Garry Monahan in the first ever NHL draft 1963. Michel Plasse in 1968. Rejean Houle in 1969 and Guy Lafleur in 1971.

Another fun fact is every time Montreal wins first pick over-all the draft it is held that year in Montreal.
