Game one of the series between Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, Montreal won 5-3 over Winnipeg in Winnipeg.
Jake Evans flew to the ice and hit his head. Evans body was motionless on the ice as the trainers and doctors carried him off by stretcher.
Canadiens captain Shea Weber and the team were outraged at what they saw. Especially, for the fact Evans was not moving.
Evans was celebrating his 25th birthday.
Winnipeg Jets Mark Scheifele was given a major penalty for charging and a game misconduct so far. Montreal Canadiens defenceman Joel Edmundson said, “If Scheifele gets back in the series, we’re going to make his life miserable, but I think the league’s going to do a good job with that.”
Montreal interim head coach Dominique Ducharme said, “It was a vicious and useless hit.” At the time of the post-game media interviews Evans was still undergoing evaluation at the arena.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled this Friday in Winnipeg.
