Quebecer race car champion Jacques Villeneuve has just started the Daytona 500.
Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve celebrated like it was the biggest victory of his career when he qualified to race in this years 2022 Daytona 500.
Villeneuve posted an impressive fastest time of the six cars eligible in time trials to earn his spot to start his engine in the considered biggest race of all racing.
This past week Villeneuve wasn’t very optimistic in qualifying at the Daytona International Speedway. Plus his car needed to be tested three times to pass the NASCAR inspection. That being said when he did qualify he ran down pit lane in search of his crew to celebrate.
“To be in such a big race at such a high level is amazing and while i’m racing I don’t realize that I’m 50 years old, which is good, said Villeneuve with a smile. “As long as this continues like this, I can’t imagine myself not racing.”
Villeneuve just last week explained why a 50-year-old world champion would show up at Daytona with a brand new team. He admitted that failing to make the race could damage his legacy, but Villeneuve said the risk was worth it because he ranks the Daytona 500 alongside the Indy 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans as the three biggest races in the world.
NASCAR has introduced a new care this season called the Next Gen car.
