First coronavirus patient hospitalized in Toronto – The first case of the coronavirus in Canada has been identified at the Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. A 50-year-old man was admitted to the Sunnybrook Hospital on the 23rd of January. The patient returned from Wuhan, China on the 22nd of January. He was admitted with chest pains and respiratory infection. Tests came back positive with the coronavirus this afternoon (Saturday January 25, 2020). The patient is being treated in a “negative pressure” room in isolation.

Staff at the Sunnybrook Hosiptal were aware of the patients travel history and took all the necessary precautions to prevent wide spread of the coronavirus. Officials at the hospital said there is little danger to the public.

The Toronto Public Health and Ontario province are using the same protocols used in the outbreak of SARS over 10 years ago. Toronto Public Health are back stepping the patients travels since he has returned from Wuhan, China on the 22nd of January to see if anyone else may be effected by the coronavirus.

People are asked who flew directly from Wuhan to Guangzhou, and then to Toronto contact the Toronto Public Health or check in to the nearest hospital.

The public is asked to take normal precautions to avoid infection.
