No, it’s not April 1, its April 30th and the Quebec government is slashing fees to obtain your Quebec driver’s licence.
The SAAQ (Quebec automobile insurance board) bank accounts are overflowing with cash and have decided to give back by not having to pay insurance premiums in 2022 to 2023.
The average saving for a regular driver’s licence is $185 for the two years and if you a have a motorcycle permit you will save almost $340 over the two year period. All being said a regular driver’s licence will cost $23.

If you are a bad driver with demerit points you will still pay the regular amount. Also if you are just receiving your driver’s licence you will have to pay the regular amount.
Basically over the last 10 years the Quebec government has taken in more than it has paid out in insurance claims. Now all we need is the Quebec government to fix our roads!
