This past Sunday the Doris Homeless held a Tea Time fundraiser, hosted by the Doris Homeless Shelter at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal. More than 300 people attended this 10th annual fundraiser. During the event, Chez Doris paid tribute to the generosity of one of its major partners, Hockey helps the homeless. Their donations helped build the restroom and bathrooms in the current building at 1430 Chomedey Street.
Marina Boulos-Winton, Executive Director of Chez Doris, also took the opportunity to present plans for the new Chez Doris night center. A new project that will help relieve congestion in other ÃŽle-de-Montreal night center. As you certainly know, resources for homeless women are in shortage compared to men. Moreover, with a travelling population of 23% women, the needs are becoming more and more obvious.
A silent auction took place during the afternoon and it is more than $ 40,000 (total count to come) that has been collected. This money will be used to fund shelter services that fight poverty, homelessness and mental illness.
