The Queen & Court have been chosen for the 196th Montreal St. Patrick’s Parade. The St. Patrick’s Parade Queen & Court Selection Evening took place recently in the chic ballroom at Plaza EVO Centre Ville where the leaders and members of the Montreal Irish community gathered for the occasion. Come the big day on March 17th Queen Victoria Kelly who is from Montreal will preside over the St. Patrick’s Parade flanked by four other lucky young women: Princess Lauren MacDonald from Dorval; Princess Lianne Short from Kirkland; Princess Aveen Mahon who grew up in Saint-Lazare but now lives in Montreal; and Princess Darragh Kilkenny-Mondoux from Montreal.

Chief Reviewing Officer is none other than Joey Elias

The evening began with dignitaries being piped into the hall followed by the sashing of the 2019 Grand Marshal Sean Finn, Executive Vice-President of CN. This year’s Chief Reviewing Officer is none other than Joey Elias, one of Montreal’s hottest Stand-Up Comedians. Joey Elias has appeared in no less than 12 Just For Laughs Festivals and the 2004 and 2006 Just For Laughs Cross Canada Tour. In 2004, he traveled to Afghanistan for the first time to entertain Canadian troops. Joey has also appeared in his own Canadian National TV special “Comedy Now!”

The 64th annual Queen Selection kicked off the Irish season festivities leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. The Queen was crowned after an evening of Irish music, dance & comedy at the pageant organized by the United Irish Societies of Montreal. The Queen and Princesses were selected by seven independent judges through a three-round public speaking contest from a pool of participants of Irish descent aged 18 to 25. The Queen was awarded a trip for two to Ireland by Air Canada.

The St. Patrick’s Parade is an opportunity for everyone to be “Irish for a Day.” Montrealers turn out in throngs for the annual rite of spring putting aside whatever else ails them. Inasmuch as the parade hearkens back to the Emerald Isle in recent years marching bands and floats have reflected the Canadian cultural mosaic. Faces from around the globe can be “seen among the green” while both English and French commingle with the lively Irish tunes. The St. Paddy’s Parade is an opportunity to don outlandish hats & over-sized goggles, to paint on cheeky shamrocks, or simply wear a smile and always for young and old alike to have a “grand ole time” despite the sometimes frightful weather.
