Summer is finally here! For Sun Youth this means it’s golfing and biking season. It also means that the organization’s 16thAnnual Mordy Gordon Golf Tournament and Cyclothon is coming soon. Sun Youth is still looking for golfers and cyclists who would like to join in on August 8, 2019 for a day of golf at the Elm Ridge Golf Course or an afternoon of cycling through the beautiful landscapes of Île-Bizard. Over the last decade and a half Sun Youth has been able to raise close to $1,000,000 for the its youth programs thanks to everyone who took part in the event since 2004.
Sun Youth Day Camp
Over the years these funds have made it possible to continue and improve their hockey development program and to introduce more and more youngsters to basketball thanks to their Spring Break and Summer Camps. These much-needed funds also allowed Sun Youth to maintain its Day Camp as well as its football and basketball programs.
Sun Youth Golf Tournament
When Sun Youth created its Annual Golf Tournament 16 years ago they couldn’t imagine the event becoming so popular. A group of Sun Youth alumni, of which was the late Mordy Gordon, decided to join forces in an effort to raise funds and awareness for children’s sports and recreation programs, giving back to the organization that shaped their youth and saw them grow into influential members of the community. They were joined in this venture by current members of the organization who also had the desire of seeing Sun Youth’s sport and recreation grow and flourish.
Great day at Elm Ridge Golf Club
In store for the golfers this year is a great day of golf on the prestigious Elm Ridge Golf course with full access to all installations, including the club house, the locker-room and the pool. Breakfast is included in the registration fees which are $250 per golfer. Food and refreshments will also be served on the course throughout the day thanks to generous sponsors. Many contests will be held at various holes such as closest to the pin, the longest drive and the chance to win a vehicle with a hole in one. At the end of the day, golfers and cyclists gather for cocktails (open bar) where they can bet on various items at a silent auction and have a look at the items sold at the traditional auction, held during supper. Once again the evening will be hosted by Sun Youth’s great friend and supporter, comedian Joey Elias.
Sun Youth Cyclothon
Participants to the Cyclothon have a choice of three courses: 20 km, 40 km and 70 km. Before their ride they can tune up their bikes on site by McW bikes. Cyclists also receive a cycling jersey and healthy snacks at various stations throughout the course. They will also have access to the clubhouse and pool at Elm Ridge and a secure space to store their bike for the rest of the event. Fees for the Cyclothon are $150 per cyclist.
Registration
Due to the growing popularity of this Golf Tournament and limited space available, registration will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. The number of spots for the Cyclothon is also limited. It is suggested that you register as soon as possible and payment is required before Friday July 12th2019. Registrations can be made on the Sun Youth website (www.sunyouthorg.com) using the donate tab and following the instructions. For more information contact Kara De La Perralle at [email protected]. Sun Youth is looking forward to seeing you on the 8thof August 2019.
